  1. I was wondering if anyone here has figure out a price estimate for making a DVD movie back-up? I am not only talking about buying a blank DVD and burn it.
I would consider the following expenses:

    - cost of printable media (DVD-R, DVD+R, single layer, double layer)
    - cost of paper for the inserts (what type of paper)
    - cost of ink used (for insert printing and on-disc printing)

    • Disk Ritek Inkjet Printable A Grade (4x) 28p
      Case 10p
      Photo Paper A4 120 grm 1p
Ink for disk and cover 2p
    Rough costs for me.
Photo paper is bulk buy when on special offer usually xmas/new year sales.

    1. Ritek or Prodisc 4X = inkjet printable ~.40-.60
    2. Legal-sized paper (Staples brand - 8 1/2 x 14) = 1.3 cents per sheet
    3. DVD case = .25
    4. Ink costs = ~.03

All told, the expense of a printed inkjet DVD with a case is less than $1 USD.

The cost for ink is highly variable depending on the cost of ink cartridges (some printers use 6 cartridges) and the type of covers and labels you are printing. For simple B&W text the cost will be less than $0.10, for full color, full coverage graphics on both the cover and label, the cost could well be over $1.00.

I have a Canon i550 with 4 seperate ink cartridges, I use thin glossy paper, buy dvd cases 100 at a time, and get glossy labels off ebay a bunch at a time. My costs are always less than a dollar, now hovering around the 75 cent mark or lower.
