  1. I downloaded the trial copy of instantcopy version 8. I am trying to back up one of my movies on to a dvdr-. I have tried it several different ways, all with the same result. The file is always over 5 gb and as we know, the dvd media is only 4.7gb. Here is how I have tried:

Under the DVD tab, I set the copy method to main movie only and the rest automatic.

Next, I tried automatic resize and left everything else automatic.

Lastly, I tried custom resize. Under that tab, I set it to main movie. The file size bar said it was going to be 4.31gb. But when I burned the movie, I got the error again.

Does anyone know how to get around this?

    Thanks a bunch.

I've bolded what I think I can comment on.

First, the DVD media is not 4.7GB, it's 4.38GB. When they advertise hard drives, DVD media and DVD drives they use the actual byte count, which is 4.7 billion bytes, and falsely use the computer notation "gigabytes". Open explorer and look at the real size of that "120 GB" drive and you'll see what I mean

In the computer world 4.38 "gigabytes" = 4.7 "billion bytes". So when you're trying to resize, you may be trying for something more than 4.38 thinking it'll fit. It won't.

Second item - which other automatic setting is there besides the resulting size? And was it manual or automatic?

Third item - Ditch Instant Copy and get DVDShrink and leave it on automatic resize.
