  1. Here is the situation:

Everything A/V component I have is black. Receiver, CD Player, SAT receiver, VCR, Speakers, and even the entertainment center itself. Everything is also SONY.

EVERYTHING decent seems to be in silver now. It would look quite silly to have a single silver DVD player in the mist of all of my black components.

I have searched the dvd player compatibility list here for almost two weeks. Everything from the Philips DVP642, Sony DVPNS725P, Sony DVP-NC675P, LiteOn.....the list goes on. I have been through 22 pages of this forum and havent found what I am looking for. Im tempted in just grabbing the Sony DVP-NC675P and be done with it, but I am afraid of it breaking down or not working correctly due to the fact that it is a multi-6 disc player. Plus there are not many reviews on dvdrhelp.com about it. It also cannot shuffle CD's which is strange indeed.

The problem I am having with my current Sony DVP-S530D is that it plays some burned DVD-/+R, but not others.

At this point, I could care less if I get a Sony, Pioneer or whatever name brand as long as it is:

    1. Black
    2. DD and DTS
    3. Optical audio out
    4. Plays all of my burned DVD's.

Im even up for a VCR/DVD combo unit if it has the 4 options above.

Does anyone have any suggestions. I am pulling my hair out here

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

  2. DVP-NS575P/B is availible directly from Sony.
So far it plays anything I throw at it, and for $89.95...you can't go wrong.
    No optical...has coax.
You can always try out a silver unit at Best Buy or Circuit City, take it back and order the black one from Sony.

  3. Here you go a player in black and as a bonus it even has a built in scaler for 720p output. I have one and it works perfect.

Is this the "Queer eye for the straight guy" forum?
Don't be a racist, mix the blacks and silvers.

  8. The only problem with that Sony DVP-NS575P/B is that it does not offer the optical audio connection like you said. I would really prefer that.

The BRAVO D1 DVI has been discontinued. The new BRAVO D2 DVI seems to be only in SILVER.

DARJR, thats funny you mentioned spray paint, I seriously thought of getting the Sony DVPNS725P and spraypainting it black I surmise that spraypaint may mess up the unit though.

I do live near an electronics store Rich, why do you ask?

It may be a little retentive to wish for a good black dvd player, but I have spent quite a bit of time and money to get a good home entertainment center and components. To me, its like having a mid range BMW in black and then painting the driver's side door silver.

You should be able to find several good black units to choose from at any DECENT electronics store.

  13. 1st, I can empathize. All 9 pieces in my rack were black. When I went to get a new DVD\DVD-A player I checked what was the best qualty at the time. The following link is a must before buying. At the time my choice was the number one listed which was the Panasonic RP-82...and yes it was silver.
But even at $229.00 it out ranked products costing thousands more.
The slim 2 inch unit barely stands out at all in my rack. And when I went to get a new 36 inch TV my only choice was Toshiba and it only came in silver. So I went silver perfering quality over looks.
Check out the link and pick something that will make your movies look good. When I turn out the lights to watch (as should be) I cant see the silver anyway. If you are on dial-up give the page a couple minutes to load. And yes paint will work. Might void the warranty though.
    Good luck...NL
