What's the Fastest Pent. 3 CPU with 166 Mhz FSB ?
I have a computer I'm selling to my dad that has a Celeron 900 CPU in it now I wanted if possible to get a faster CPU for it.
The Motherboard is a ASUS CUSL2-C and all it says it will suport Intel Pent. 3 CPU with 166 Mhz FSB can anyone tell me what the fastest one of these is ?
Thanks !

Don't think they ever had 166MHz FSB, 133 and 200, but I don't recall any 166s. ASUS has a page to check supported CPUs...
http://www.asus.com/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx
Select Query by motherboard, your mobo type (Socket 370) and model number (CUSL2-C).
It shows that the max supported CPU is the P3-1.0B GHz (133 MHz FSB). You'll need BIOS version 1007 or later.
Will cost you about $60+ online. You'll gain a little speed going from 900MHz to 1GHz and you'll get more cache 256K vs. 128K. The downside is that the 256K cache on the P3 runs at half speed vs. full speed on the Celeron.Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
for about $75 though - you can buy an all-in- one pretty decent motherboard with 1800-2000 amd cpu and on board graphics and sound and lan .. it will smoke the p3 hands down in all respects except maybe graphics.
they fit right into your old case most of the time ...
ive put several of these together for cheapo systems for people and never had one bit of problem with them .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
