I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

depending on where you live, Fry's electronics has good periodic sales.
I got a ADS Dual Link drive kit ( usb2 and firewire400) for 39 $ after a 30 $ rebate. they also have Hitachi 250 gb drives over and over for 99$

i haven't bought from them, but they have a great selection:

For Firewire 400 be sure to get one with the OXFORD chipset, most will use that..but make sure.
Now, I want a Firewire 800 dual or quad enclosure, but don't know which chipset is best??? Oxford 912 or 922 (912 i think is better) OR the Initio chipset? I would go with the Oxford 912 but few cases use it. Anyone?
maybe this should be a thread all it's own... -
The Oxford IDE/FireWire bridge chips are typically the best, with the highest performance. The Oxford 911 chip is for FireWire 400 Mbit, and the 922 is for FireWire 800 Mbit. Never heard of the 912, but I'd go with the 922, personally, as it is a newer generation than the 91x chips.

I couldn't find much on the 912, but this is where I saw it *may* be better than the 922:

"Both the Big Disk Extreme and the d2 Extreme use the Oxford 912 bridge chip,
which is reportedly superior to the Oxford 922 chip used by most FireWire ... " -
For $53 and changes, you can get one of this dual firewire case while supply last.

edited: my bad....it is only for 3.5'' drive, the CDRW probably will not fit...

that thing from compgeeks is junk, and they're support is the WORST- ALL SALES FINAL!! it is not ATA-6 so it really doesn't work with drives over 120GB, if you can get two working in it all! depends on the brand and size... STUPID! avoid this thing unless you want hassles, or just plan on using it for ONE drive, then it MIGHT work. This thing has only caused me headaches, although the build quality seems solid.

If I remember correctly the it may have seen the first 128GB of the WD... not positive. If you EVER have to deal with their tech support or customer service, you will never buy from them again. it looks like on the back of that dual 53 dollar one, that there is a spot underneath the firewire ports for a PCI card, if i have an extra usb 2.0 card, would that fit it it?
thanks for eveyones responses by the way!
