  1. I am trying to find a Mac DVD Player program that is free and can take snapshots of DVD Menu's and whatever you put into the DVD Player on the computer? Is there one out there like that?

  2. In OS X there is a way to just take a snapshot of anything that is on the screen (desktop)

Mac OS X: Shortcuts for taking pictures of the screen

In addition to the Grab application, you can also use keyboard shortcuts to take pictures of the screen in Mac OS X.

To take a picture of the whole screen, press Command-Shift-3.

To take a picture of part of the screen, press Command-Shift-4 and drag to select the area you want.

The picture is saved as a TIFF file on your Desktop. Note: Mac OS X 10.2 and later saves pictures as PDF files. See document 107078 "Mac OS X 10.2: Screen Shots Are Saved in PDF, May Be Converted" for additional information.

To copy the screen capture to the Clipboard instead of saving it as a file, press Control-Command-Shift-3 to copy the entire screen to the Clipboard, or Control-Command-Shift-4 to copy the selected range to the Clipboard.

BernieR, you are correct in everything you said, but it won't capture the window that the DVD is playing in. There is a utility called Capture Me that will capture a still of a DVD menu (or a still of part of the movie). Just google "Capture Me" and I'm sure you'll find it.

  4. I've used an app called DVDCapture it saves as a pdf or jpeg. You can find it at MacUpdate. It also has a controller so you can play, pause and advance the dvd, which is helpful in finding the right frame.

use VLC to play the DVD and you can use the built-in capture to get it.
