Most major brands do. I know the following do: Aiwa,Pioneer,Sony,Panasonic.
Most DVD players will have a sticker on them saying that they support CD-Rs and CD-RWs. When you go to buy your player just lookout for this or ask the salesman.

  4. You want compatibility then buy a Pioneer 535 or 503 DVD Player. They can play VCD and SVCD no problems. I have incoded over 200 movies at differentsetting from VCD 1150 bit rate standard to VCD varible bitrate 2 pass and my latest is SVCD using DVD2SVCD and Cinema Craft Encoder 2.5. That is the best possible way to encode a dvd even with the audio set at 48000hz the pitcure and sound is awesome. And they are pretty cheap too.
One draw back is it can not play MP3 but who cares about that if you can get the best picture qaulity possible.
Don't buy a Panasonic. They suck for playing SVCD's They skip and stutter when playing a SVCD.
