I looking for a new stand alone DVD player.
My current model from 99' is having a real tough time playing some of my dvd-r media (it cant play dvd+r at all.)
Main concern to be able to play dvd-r and dvd+r media, and picture quality.
So i have been browsing through various forums for some ideas on what to get.
I have noticed that the Philips DVP642 seems to be a popular unit for the under 100$ models.
I think that its a neat feature that this player supports divx and xvid codec, but i will very rarely use this feature.
From what i had read from around the net; some users said that this unit has Subpar picture quality for DVD video(is that because there using it on a HD TV? i just have a 53" Sony KP53V80( non-HD).
Also that it also has issuses with DTS playback. Is this true?
I know that there is all ready quite a few DVP642 treads. I applogies for another one. But it seem that most people get this unit because of its ability to play Divx/Xvid.
All im looking for is Great Media support (dvd-/+/r/rw), picture quality, and low priced unit.
So what im asking is for the people that have this unit would they still think that its a Great player if it didnt have divx/xvid playback?
thanks
