ISO Extraction Problems

I have a large ISO file which contains a DVD of a TV series, problem is i dont have a DVD burner

I opened the file using ISO Buster and located the video TS folder which has, amongst other things, 5 large VOB files which i beleive are the ones i am looking for.

The first one extracted fine and played on winDVD however the next one crashed at about 70%, giving me the retry or ignore option, the only thing that would work was ignore - ignore all but this gave me a VOB file that froze at the crash point.

I tried extracting this file as RAW data but at the same point i got the error that asks you if you want to replace the bad sections with zeros so i had the same problems.

I scanned the remaining files with ISO buster and it reported that VOB 2 - 5 all contain unreadable sections.

I tried different ISO buster options (one of which created a new tab called Lost & Found but said i had to register to use it?) and Magic ISO but they all have the same problems.

I am used to dealing with AVI's and MPEGS and i know that with these files if the file is bad there is only so much you can try before you send them off to the Recycle bin in the sky.

Is there anything else worth trying or should i get rid and forget about it?

Also on my ISO Buster 1.5 Pro the 'register' option is greyed out so if i did purchase an unlock code how would i go about unlocking the software?

Burn the iso file with nero as an image file burn,if you dont have a dvd burner buy one cause its much easier to burn then to try and extract and re-encode and fiddle and get frustated.

i shoul have mentioned when i was playing around i loaded the file to nero using the image burn option and it came up with a query saying that some of the blocks were the wrong size and did i want to ignore or fix?

Mount the image with daemon tools, then treat it as any regular DVD, rip and convert to VCD/SVCD following the usual DVD to VCD/SVCD guides.

Why not rip with DVD Decrypter to see if the files can be extracted to a folder with no errors and then burn with nero dvd-video compilation?

...makes me believe that's not an option...

Sorry,forgot about that,buying a dvd burner would still be the easiest way,when you tried burning the image file when you have a cd burner would most likely give you the block error message.

I installed Daemon (thanks for the tip) - at first it would not accept the file but i found out it was an easy cd created ISO and so may not have been done correctly so i loaded the ISO into Nero and asked for a new image to be burned on my hard drive, which was fine and i was left with a .nrg file.

I then mounted this with Daemon and it played back fine but there was no audio.

I have tried playing with all the settings on Daemon and messed with the properties for the newly created (G) virtual drive but i cant get any audio from it.

I used DVDX to rip one of the chapters to MPEG and that played back with audio so i know the original file is ok - also i can solve my original problem but for future use do you know how i can solve my virtual drive audio problem?

What did you use to play your virtual DVD? I bet there's nothing wrong with the image nor daemon tools - I bet it's an audio codec problem. If you open the virtual DVD with DVDDecrypter or DVDShrink, it ought to tell you what audio streams (and their formats) are available.

when i mounted the file in daemon it just auto played, and application opened that i had never seen before called 'dvd player' it had a control bar at the bottom and a detatched screen that looked like a really old wm player at the top. To be honest i thought that this was part of the daemon package but perhaps it was on my pc already?

I will have a look at the software that you have suggested and take it from there.

I did open it with DVDx and it showed one audio option (i think MPEG 1 or 2 ) but i am at work at the moement - should i then do a web search for the appropriate audio codec?

As you can tell i have never really had much dealings with DVD software before - i am really looking to buty a DVD burner asap so this will all come in useful.

yes, it must have been - daemon tools is "just" a tool to use CD/DVD images as if they where a physical CD/DVD, regardless of content.
I suggest you try PowerDVD or WinDVD in ome of their latest incarnations to play a DVD.
MP2 is a standard DVD video audio format - the others are AC3 and LPCM Wav - so that might be OK - why your system doesn't play it is more of a mystery. As you managed to rip a chapter with audio, tells me that your system can handle mp2 audio...
