  1. I get pop ups when MS has critical updates and it asks me if I want to download.

This last time it mentioned PS2 and I think I clicked yes. I say that because I haven't seen any results yet.

I changed settings and even the date to see if I could get the pop up again but no luck.

From forum posts I gathered that it could download in chunks over the course of days depending on connectivity etc.

I also read many posts that would have me want to wait and see what bugs are fixed or added so I changed my settings.

I also noticed my computer slowing down periodically, especially going to new web pages and more so to MS sites. Could that be because MS is downloading in the background? Or the massive files going through the net right now?

How can I see if there's any PS2 downloading going on in the background?

I have always automatically clicked download when updates came but never saw a progress window anywhere.

I've also seen some P2P websites stating they have authentic SP2 files available so we don't have to wait for MS bottleneck.

    Any input on this?

    Thanx.

Download and install it using Automatic Updates

If you have Automatic Updates turned on, you don’t need to take any further action for SP2 to be downloaded to your computer while you are connected to the Internet. Depending on how long and how often you are connected to the Internet, it may take awhile before SP2 is fully downloaded. Once SP2 is completely downloaded from the Internet, you will be notified that it is ready to be installed on your computer. You can check your Automatic Updates setting on the Windows Update home page or by following the instructions on the Get computer updates page on the Microsoft Protect Your PC website.

Automatic Updates is the only way to download SP2 from Windows Update at this time. Other methods to install SP2 will be available soon.
I think what they're saying is that you don't need to worry about it at all, let Windows deal with it. I've also had a good hunt around my PC but I can't find anything.

Not a perfect way to tell but, Right click the connection icon by the wiondows clock it looks like two monitors. Under the general tab there's a activity section. Under normal conditions if you aren't downloading or sending anything the send and receive activity should have no change, maybe an occasional blip here and there.

I'm not certain, but I believe automatic downloading of SP2 has been suspended by M$ for the moment.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
