  1. Can anyone suggest an encoder to convert avi/dvd to rm for use on a pocket pc?

I have procoder 2, which works, but only has fixed profiles which have bitrates that are either not good enough or too good making the files too big. The one which are ok all have VBR audio which the ppc real player will not recognise (.rmvb). Havent worked out how to add or change the profiles yet, if you can? I also got a copy of real producer basic, but you cannot change the codecs or video size unless you upgrade ($199).

    So basically:

I need to convert divx/xvid avi or vob/mpg to rm (not .rmvb) and be able to set the bitrate manually, or at least create a profile and change the video size.

Any help would be great? Thanks

  2. You mention RM on a pocket PC... Any reason why you don't use Win Media. The only reason I ask is they offer some very good tools to convert files to MWV files that play perfectly on you PPC. Not to mention that Windows Media Player comes with the PPC.

I went online and found a settings file for my Jornada for the Media Encoder ... converted MPEG's played and looked great on the PPC. it converts to 240x at 15fps...

  3. I tried wmv but couldnt get a result I was happy with. I am aiming at 24 fps, for my HP2210 which has a 400mhz cpu, so can cope with it. I think I will end up getting a 512mb sd card for better quailty encodes. Think there is a bit more reading to do before I crack this one?

  4. Just use avi.

You can convert it all in one program like Dr Divx, it even has an option for pocket encodes. A 512mb avi looks excellent on a pocket pc. I use it with my 3970 and it rules.

  6. Check out Betaplayer. Best Mpeg4 player for the PPC. Allows the use of multiple B frames as well.

Encode with whatever program you like best. A lot of people have said Pocket Divx Encoder works well, but I prefer to do it manually with Avisynth/Vdubmod (using Xvid and Ogg Vorbis).

Easily get 3 movies onto a 512mb SD card @24fps (of course YMMV)
