  1. Not that it matters much, but I'm curious if a DV codec is ever used during this process and if so, which one it might be.
    I transfer my DV material using scenalyzer to my hard drive. I dump it into premiere and edit as needed. I frameserve to procoder. Where's the codec in this picture? Which one is it?

    The codec is used for decoding whenever you see the contents of the file. This has no impact on the quality of the file itself, although it may impact the visual quality if it porrly decodes. The most likely codec here is the MS DV codec, an average quality codec. If you create any new footage when you edit (fades, cross fades, titles etc) then the same DV codec will be used to create these before frameserving to procoder. Finally, a codec is used to create the final file. If all goes well, footage that has not been changed will not be altered at all by the process (assuming you output as DV)
