  1. Will it suck or will it be acceptable @ 1024x768x32? I'm not O/C'ing the vidcard, as it is a crappy O/C'er. Default is 250/513. I am running a KT-400 mobo w/ an AMD 2500+ Barton @ 2.3GHz and 1GB of RAM (You can check my Computer Details).

So, what do y'all think -- buy it or save the money?

I am very intrigued about the newly announced NV-6600GT, but that'll be a while.

I think you could get away with a Ti GF4 pretty well with D3. Say 1024x768 res with average settings.

IIRC the 6600 are PCI-E graphics cards with AGP versions to follow. I wouldn't count on AGP versions being very good though.

  3. I just don't think it is worth it to invest hundreds on a PC game.

I have Ti4200 128 MB. The graphic still looks awsome at medium level without glitches. I go for Save Money.

Damn you Ripper2860! :P I just looked into the new NVIDIA 6600 GPU, wow. I planned on buying an ATI Radeon 9800XT today but it looks like the NVIDIA 6600 gets better benchmarks at half of the price. By any chance have you heard of a release date?

    Edit:
The GeForce 6600 and GeForce 6600 GT GPUs are expected to be available in late-September from the world’s leading add-in-card manufacturers, including:...
Damnit, I have absolutely no patience.

I'm getting a Redeon 9600XT with 256mb ($150) and going from 512 to a full gig of mem ($90). It will replace a GeForce 2 Ti2000 with 64mb on board men. It's not just to play games, emails to my mom will get sent off quicker too. :P
Big Government is Big Business.. just without a product and at twice the price... after all if the opposite of pro is con then wouldn’t the opposite of progress be congress?

For only about $30 more, you can get an All-in-Wonder Radeon 9600Xt with all the performance + capture and other video features as well as FM.

It's funny that when the games got to be more graphics intensive the cards became more advanced (and thus more expensive) to take some of the load off of the processor. At the time I thought it was because video cards were significantly less expensive than a new CPU and / or motherboard. With the cost of the latest and greatest video cards these days, maybe it's time to switch gears and put all that CPU power to good use. I wonder what CPU/Mobo combo you can get for the cost of an X800XT Platinum. The funnier part is that most of all that power is used strictly for gaming.

    P.S. - I can't WAIT til the 512MB cards come along.

There already are video cards with 512MB of VRAM, like the QuadroFX 4400. A gamer won't use that much VRAM anyway, that's why the workstation cards are ahead of the rest for VRAM and 128-bit pipes. CAD and 3D modeling will use that VRAM to prefetch results and since the code isn't optimized in an app where you're building it you need that power (whereas a game engine has streamlined the code already). AGP aperture helps with the speeds of RAM these days so that's really all you need on top of your 128MB video card.

I remember when a buddy of mine came into a DEC Alpha Station with a PowerStorm 4D60T video card. It was a dual-pci slot card with connection for 2 SDRAM DIMMs (totalling 32MB). Our jaws dropped. At the time that was beyond anything either of us had seen.

And yet it probably couldn't run Doom

Or maybe they did have DOS platforms for those. Never worked with anything other than mainstreams and Crays.
