  1. It was announced as in production on May 7, 2008,[1] following speculation by John Carmack at QuakeCon on August 3, 2007.[2] In Issue 184 of Game Informer, Doom 4 was speculated to be due for release alongside Rage, late in the third quarter of 2009

It's a good thing the new id Tech 5 engine will be based on OpenGL rather than that joke DX10 Vista thing...

Personally, I greatly enjoyed the previous Doom3, it was an awesome FPS!
It's funny how people wanted to bash Doom3, all they had to say were the same comments 1,000,000 times over about the flashlight and the darkness, but completely overlooked the fact that it was simply an excellent old-school FPS.

I'm really looking forward in playing Doom 4 but somehow I doubt that it will be ready by the 3rd quarter of 2009

I hope it is better than the abomination that was Quake 4 - an experience more linear than a roller coaster.

  3. Seeing as Doom3 was a re-telling of the original Doom, one can only wonder if Doom 4 will be a remake of Doom II - Hell on Earth?

I heard on g4 that if they don't get some deal with microsoft for 3 discs they'd have to strip it down for the 360 and go lower res. That sounds nuts to me that they'd have to have some kind of license agreement for multiple discs or reduce the quality of the game????
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

It's because developers are lazy now and would rather release a game with huge code rather than spend the time refining it down to a proper size.

Not too badly. It was ported to the Nintendo DS.

I've been a big opponent of bloatware for years. Seems like most of the gigantic games coming out these days were done just as well on much inferior machines for only a few megs (Playstation, N64, Dreamcast, etc.) It's really lame that the games are bloated, plus you have to have a bloated system too.

Even some of the games that were "good enough" became outstanding with a small graphics patch (Quake, Descent, carmageddon). We didn't have your fancy HD-discs. Just simple punch cards to play our games, dagnabbit!
