  1. Why is WinAVI so much faster than TMPGEnc? I know TMPGEnc has more options than WinAVI, but I hate using it because when i make a dvd sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't in my player. WinAVI usually works for me everytime though. Thoughts?

i kno wot u mean bout tmpgenc being amazingly slow as a twenty-five minute video is takin 2 hours which is ridiculous! a two hour film normally only takes four which i guess is bearable but 2 hours for each episode of a tv show is maddening. ive only jus got winavi (b4 i tried the demo of it and it put a logo acros the screen which was crap) and havnt tried to see if its any better for me, so ill get back to u. good call : )

  3. winavi is quite good now( ver.5.8 ).
also whats quite good is dvdsanta,it does the same thing with slightly better results than winavibut takes a bit longer.
tmpgenc on the other hand, really pisses me off with the "roughly the same length of time as the movie to convert". thing.
winavi,or dvdsanta in my book, over tmpgenc just now.

yeh the two hours for the 25 min show takes only 12 min on winavi -which kicks ass. the thing is , thats weird is, that a different tv show of the same length took only 12 mins on tmpgenc (this was a while back - i remember os i had to do tonnes of them).

i normally use WinAVI for bigger videos, because it goes quicker, and since i cant leave my pc on that long, so that makes it easy, but for small things, i use TMPGEnc, like, i just made a dvd that consisted of many clips, but since they were all clips, none of them longer than 13 min, i just put them all through TMPGEnc, and it took about a day to convert, not that
