  1. Hi,

I'm using IAuthor to create an SVCD with two audio tracks and one soft subtitle track. I know the IAuthor muxer is very buggy and will cause the audio to go out of sync overtime. Is there an updated muxer that won't do this? I can use bbdmux to extract the mpg to it's component streams 0xE0,0xC0,0xC1, including the private stream 0xBD which contains the subtitles. I have not found a muxer that can remux these streams, including the private stream back into an mpg. I personally preferer to use vcdimager and cdrwin, but until vcdimager has support for soft subtitles, I'm stuck with IAuthor. Is there any other authoring program that supports soft subtitles and two audio tracks?

    Thanks for your help.

Other than I-Author the only program which can multiplex soft encoded subs into a svcd stream is Philips svcd designer. Unfortunately this program only runs under NT, and wont even run on win2k or winxp, at least as far as I've ever heard.

Yes I-Author has a very buggy multiplexor. The only solution I have found to get around sync problems is to keep your playtime at or around 40 mins. After that is where it usually starts to desync.

I too would love to see vcdimager, or any other authoring tool for that matter, add support for soft encoded subs.

  3. Is there any muxer out there that can mux any type of stream into an mpg. If bbdmux can extract the private stream (subtitle stream) there must be a muxer that can mux the private stream with a video stream and two audio streams. If not, is there any documentation on the structure of an mpg file and how the various streams are muxed so I can write my own muxer?

    I'd appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Sorry no there are no other muxers which can do anything other than extract the private stream.

I don't know where you can get info on muxing mpgs. You might consider analyzing the souce code for bbmpeg (its under public licences right?). If you are serious about this, and I hope you are, then try posting about it in the development section on the doom9.net forums. You can find people who might be able to give you specific info as well as people who might be interested in forming a development team. Chances are there are people who have tried to do exactly what you are proposing, hopefully you can get a working version.
