EO Video may be able to do it for you. Check out these guides.

  5. if a Rm file is 45min long and was 160mb. my CPU is Athlon 1700XP, 512ram,

so how long it take to convert?

  6. I have an Athlon 2400xp, with 512m of ram. EO video takes over 2 hours to convert a 45 minute video clip (file size approximately 160meg) into a MPEG file (approx 400 megs). I usually leave the computer on overnight to do the converting. I've heard that Intel processors tends to be faster for converting video files, not sure though.

I have an Athlon 2400xp, with 512MB RAM too. I used EO video to convert 45 mins rmvb/rm files to avi. It takes about 1 hr. at 320x240 resolution (~18 GB files.) The time also depends on the bitrate you choose.

  8. I use to use EO Video... but on a few occasions, it was taking an entire day to convert one file (I have a 2400XP, 512megs of RAM)... I am not sure if its a specific type of rmvb file or not, but it only happens with SOME files. Then I switched to a TMPGENC/Real Alternative combination, and was able to convert a 45 min rmvb files to a mpg (2 pass 1150 variable rate) in approx 1.5 hours (also, the 'search' quality was set to good). I heard that it'll even be faster if you rip the audio from the rmvb files with EO Video or another software, then join the rmvb video with the ripped audio with TMPGENC. Haven't tried it though.

  10. I'm currently having problem with my conversion setup, but it has worked for over 6 months. I believe the steps are:
    1. Uninstall Real Player
    2. Install Real Alternative (I think latest is 1.23)
    3. Install TMPGENC 2.54.37.135 (I think the new ones won't work)
    4. In TMPGENC, under OPTION->ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING...->VFAPI PLUG-IN, move priority of "DirectShow Multimedia File Reader to the top (a 2 ranking?), and move AVI2(OpenDML)... and AVI VFW compatib... to below 2 (I think anything below 2 would do)
    5. Open up the rmvb file with TMPGENC and convert away.

I've heard that with this process, you will not get sound, but I've been getting sound for all my rmvb to mpg (VCD) conversions for over 6 months...

Currently, I think Real Player has really messed up my system (installed it recently -stupid me), I can't undelete it, and after deleting, uninstalling, re-installing all the software, I still am not able to get TMPGENC to pick up the rmvb files. I'll probably wipe the entire system clean one of these days.
