hey i was wondering if someone could offer some insight on this:
A friend of mine asked me to make a backup of the newer version of Rock and roll high school (US ntsc ver, newer disc has the "in memory of joey ramone") for him. He purchased it a while ago and never really watched it (or at least all the features on it, had he done so he could have returned it) . I dont care whatever his reason was for making the backup.... easy enough i told him, and then...
decrypt gave some messages concerning invalid/mistmatching ifo files. It still copied them anyway to the pc. What i did find somehwat shocked me. it turns out that the dvd had 3 titles. The 3rd title (which were a bunch of trailers for other films) had a completely blank ifo file!!!. SO i renamed the .bup for it and took a look to see if that was any different. No luck it was blank as well. I used another ripper to make sure and ripped those same files and got the same verdict
I went to go play the disc off the pc and see what it would do, and yes that special previews button off the main menu just sat there and would not go anywhere.
My question is does anyone own this newer ver for the film on dvd? i am very curious if all of the copies came out like that (disc defect) if their was some recall, etc-- thanks again.

It sounds like menu buttons that go nowhere and do nothing? You mentioned Joey Ramone. That would lead me to believe it's some kind of inside joke more than it is bad authoring.

no its like this:
on the bottom of the main menu is an option for special previews. These are previews for other films that new concorde (who made the dvd) released. That actual content (VTS_03_1.vob) is fully on the disc as well as the vts_0/ifo/bup files for it. So its there, but the ifo file for that title is completely blank. Its like they took wordpad, made a blank document and named it vts_03_0.ifo
when you try and go to this off the main menu, since the ifo file is not there (techincally) the button highlights and is selectable as it normally would be, but since it doesnt see the content it just loops back to the main (well really it just gives the highlight that you selected it and thats it)
this is why i was curious if this was just a random defect or an actual master/pressing error -
have you tried just opening the IFO direct from the DVD with IFOEdit?
at the minute I'm thinking bad disc if there is a button to the special features in that VTS but you never know. I can understand the button not working on purpose as it may be an Easter Egg thing that only allows you to watch the special after certain sequences etc but that would still require an IFO to access the VTS
p.s. I wonder how many hyenas jump into this thread saying bad disc but with a pathetic tone like they did with petar's thread before people get a chance to investigate it further. I will overlook the backing it up for a friend as I wil presume he was there with him pressing the buttons and you giving directions

Ironically it backed up fine when i just deleted the vts_3 info out of the directory and used a get gts sectors update. Still though it makes me wonder if the pressing of them were bad or just that particular disc
