  1. I have been offline for a while and would like to know if there are any good all round codec packs

I used to have the SLD Codec Pack 1.5.3 , is there a latest version or is there a better pack alltogether

  2. Mark - what are you looking for / what are you trying to accomplish?

    two popular codecs:
    HuffYUV
    PICVideo MJPEG

  3. Why install codec packs. I don't see the point of installing unnecessary codecs if you don't have to. There is a greater chance that this could cause problems with codec conflicts. Just installing what you need, when you need it is the safest bet.

  4. My essential codec list... Xvid, Divx, AC3... Windows media player 9, Real Alternative, Quicktime Alternative (if you watch a lot of streaming videos). Dont use codec packs, they cause more trouble than they are worth, install them individually, they are all available in the tools section <<<<<<<<<<<

  5. How do I know what clip requires which codec ? How do I find that out ? I must admit installing a codec pack saves time but does appear to cause problems but since I am not well up on this I take the advice of the only technically minded ppl I know and they tend to use packs as opposed to installing individual codecs as and when required

  8. For some people ffdshow is a good choice, I guess. But I have noticed my videos when played back using ffdshow, on panning scenes there is a slight bit of studdering, which gets annoying. But if I play back with appropiate codec, no problems.

  14. @nufan292,

Have you tried any of the newer releases of ffDshow? At one time there was a problem with ffDshow causing stuttering, but it has been fixed (you can also fix it by enabling VMR9 playback).

Try one of Athos' latest builds to see if it is still a problem.

  15. Actually I have tried newer releases. Whenever there is a new release I'll give it a try. But rarely keep it. Since I have all the appropiate codecs installed and I can play anything that I have currently perfectly, there are no worries.
