HELLO PEOPLE!. Please excuse the upper case lettering but I know what the problem was with the JVC M10SL that I had to have repaired. I spoke to the tech and he said it was the Laser, he called it the Pickup Unit. So it seems that the drive went bad.

He is still waiting for another drive unit to come from JVC parts. He said JVC requires the entire assembly be replaced. Hopefully I will get it back next week sometime.

It makes sense because I noticed that my last two dvd-ram recordings were breaking up. I thought the disks were dirty but the laser was going bad. That explains why the recorder was malfunctioning. I 'm glad to know what happened but it will take awhile before I get my confidence back in this JVC product.

Your unit may have been moved too much. Of all the errors it could have been, that is by far the nicest of them. A bad drive typically does not reflect badly on the unit, as long as it dies right away (not like Sony that die after use). I'm actually relieved to hear this is all it was.

Me too Lordsmurf, I spoke to him again and asked about the LOADING issue and he said it can be a sign of a malfunction unit (a warning sign), but in most cases its just a small bug with the unit from his opinion.

He said a bad laser is not a big deal, it happens from time to time. 8)

  5. I think ejai smoked his laser from burning movies non-stop 24/7... :P :P

    (just kidding)

I'm very glad to hear it was something simple.

  7. I never had any recording problems that I know of on mine, but I haven't watched everything I recorded. I think it's something to do with the drive on mine too. If I put my ear by the machine when it says loading, I can hear what sounds like the laser moving back and forth. I took it in today. I'll post what was wrong when I find out.

  8. Has anyone opened to see if it's an integrated drive, or an standard burner like in the D-RMV1?

It's near-impossible to see anything. There is an internal case, sort of a shield.
