My DVD drive is currently speed locked, and I'm not going to upgrade the firmware until the warranty expires, so the best I can rip at is 5.5mb/s Using DVD Decrypter, I can rip a full DL disk to the HDD in around 25 minutes.

With an unlocked drive this should be closer to 15 minutes

Depends a bit on the length of the movie (obviously), the bitrate it was encoded at and hence the size of the VOB files on the DVD5 (or 9), and how badly scratched it is, but assuming it is fairly clean and undamaged, I generally can rip a complete movie with DVD Decrypter in around 10-15mins I guess.

It tends to go at about 7.8 - 8.5MB/s or so.

Ripping should take somewhere between 10-30 minutes.

DVDDecrypter and smartripper are both excellent rippers and are both FREE.
    If in doubt, Google it.
