That's nothing. Some little shit kid threw a large safety cone on to the highway from the side near Harlem. Not pleasant swerving. He could have killed somebody I hope that ******* kid gets his skull crushed by a large truck. That would be a fitting punishment.

That kind of stuff is attempted murder in my book and should be treated as such by the courts.

    LOL no, I held back...

I think it's time California enacted a law making it illegal to drive while talking on a cell phone. I was just driving home from Costco and literally got ran off the road because some woman was too busy yacking on the phone rather than paying attention to actually driving. This isn't the first close call I have had either. It's out of control.

I read and hear stories in the media all the time of accidents due to the distraction caused by talking on the phone while driving and I'm fed up with it!

As my State Assemblyman I am urging you to propose or support any existing legislation that addresses this issue.

  6. Actually, talking on a mobile phone (not using a handsfree) and driving IS illegal in Australia... and I'm fairly sure we're not alone.

    So there's international precedent...

I think there's something in the works here in MN (where it's illegal to do anything and everything) for cell phone use while driving. At least that is one law I'd look forward to. Mostly it aims at those who don't use handsfree headsets or such. I drive a manual like a WRC driver so I couldn't sacrifice a hand to hold a phone to my head to talk on it so it just isn't an option for me. I do have a hands-free set, and my new phone is a speakerphone itself so I only have to hit the big button to answer or hang up, but I hardly use it then. I even have in my voicemail message that I'm away from the phone or driving so that folks realize I don't answer my phone in my car.

As long as we're on the subject of cell phones: I also abhor loud ringtones. Mine is attached to my hip when at work or about and set to vibrate. Ringtones are ******* annoying. I also don't like people who talk on them while trying to carry on a conversation with you. I especially hate those who use them in restaurants. And of course I hate those who use them constantly on the roads. On long trips into the Cities I make a little tally of those drivers I get behind at lights to see if they're on a phone. It's a little disturbing that most of the time more than 75% are on phones. Do we really have that much going on? Rule #1: do not talk about Fight Club...

There's a lot of local laws here in PA that go back at least 5 years making that illegal, I'm pretty sure the state passed a law making it illegal a year or two ago. Driving a truck I see many bad drivers. I did have a great experience with a cell phone driver once though. The guy stopped at a red light except he stopped right in the middle of the intersection while talking on the phone. So I'm heading right for him with no chance of stopping. He turns my way and.......... , all he sees is a big grill and bumber coming at him. Luckily there was no one coming the other way and I was able to swerve around him.

I don't believe that there is a state law in PA on this (yet! ), but like you said, there are dozens of local (township, city, and county) laws that prohibit it.

I haven't seen a state issued law yet, and I've been keeping an ear out for sometime. My feelings on this go back 12 years from the first of many times I have been either run off the road or almost hit by some idiot who thinks talking on a phone is more important than the lives he/she could take by not being able to control their car.

I roll the window down anytime I see someone talking on a phone while driving and yell.... a good loud CONSTANT use of the car horn REALLY pisses them off as well - you know, the kind where you lay on the horn and don't get off for say 30 seconds or so while driving behind or next to them.... My wife thinks that I'm a "shooting victim statistic" just waiting to happen...

There's a TV commercial here that pokes fun of the size of some of the SUVs. It shows a soccer mom dropping off her kids in a steamroller, and there are 5 or 6 others doing the same. Another scene shows a guy filling up his steamroller with gas with a look of horror on his face

Awwww ...that's nice I'll have to find a spot for you in the new cabinet. How about Interior Secretary (wildlife, including emu's)?

Ass kissing always gets the job. I've never discouraged it I've been waiting for it to start, not wanting to be obvious and mention it or anything low-brow like that.

What we have is more than just a cabinet position ....well, the missionary position is hard to beat I liked the gallon of fruit ambrosia and the hot-glue gun ....very imaginative of you

  17. I'm pretty sure they introduced law in California on this recently.

    Read it:
    http://www.rfsafe.com/article2493.html

"Prohibits, beginning January 1, 2005, any person using a cellular telephone while operating a motor vehicle unless the telephone is designed and used in a manner that allows hands-Free operation and the operator keeps both hands on the steering wheel. Allows emergency exceptions"

So.....will it be illegal to drive with only one hand on the wheel, if you're not using a cell phone???????

When I visited family in india a last december, they apparently have a similar law. You are fined 500 Rs.(which is only about 10 bucks over here but for some people that's an entire month or year pay over there) but since the system is so corrupt, you could pay the cop 300 at the spot for not writing the ticket and 99% of the time you're not going to spend the night in jail for bribery. So that law isnt working out too well for them.
