  1. Hi all, I want to make a special and "effect-full" SVCD to my girlfriend , now that we are 5 years togheter .

    This SVCD should have:
    1. motion menus with background music
    2. effect when choosing one menu
    3. under each menu there will be 2 sections: (1) clips , (2) photo slideshow
    4. when choosing clips it should lead to another motion menu with all the relevant clips and when choosing the slideshow it should open a full screen slideshow (with smooth professional transitions).

What applications should i use in order to make it a rememmberable SVCD ? or any guides relevant for it ?

    Thx,
    Liron.

I think you're asking too much from the SVCD format. Even for DVD, what you're asking is over the top for most authoring apps.

The VCD and SVCD formats can certainly handle all this, you just have certain limitations. For "hotspot-like" buttons (DVD style) you can only do this with still menus and you will have to use the next and previous tracks buttons to navigate. If you use motion menus or menus with sound then you can only use the # keys to make selections.

As far as software, you just need any photo imaging software to make the stills, and any video editing software to make the motion clips. For authoring use VCDEasy. You can actually do everything with freeware software if you get proficient with Avisynth.

Check out the guide I wrote on creating SVCDs with Menu's and extra features. https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=282&howtoselect=6;32#282

It uses a DVD as a source, so you'll have to create your own assets instead, but the latter part of the guide will show you how to do all of the authoring in VCDEasy. Read about "Editing the Menu's" and it will show you how to create the hotspot like buttons.

Most everything that can be done on a DVD can at least be simulated in the VCD and SVCD formats.

I was maybe a little categorical in my first reply:
    1. motion menus with background music
Yes, with the restriction Adam mentiones - You have to use the numeric keys on the remote to select an item.
    2. effect when choosing one menu
    Nope. Not possible.
    3. under each menu there will be 2 sections: (1) clips , (2) photo slideshow
    No problem here...
    4. when choosing clips it should lead to another motion menu with all the relevant clips and when choosing the slideshow it should open a full screen slideshow (with smooth professional transitions).
Yes, with the same restrictions as 1.

But you're in for one hell of a project, that I wouldn't try even after 2 years of VCD/SVCD authoring (but then again, I might be too thick! )

I think you would be happy if you used something like Memories on TV. It creates very nice slideshows w/ great transition effects and background music of your choice.

It can create VCD, SVCD or DVD. It wont have the motion menu's and such but I think you would be very happy with the results and It would save you a vast amount of time.

You could have an effect when choosing a menu. It would just be a transition that would play after selecting that button.

Back when I use to make SVCDs I would backup the DVD to SVCD with everything, within reason, still intact. That included all extras and menus. Motion menu's had to have #'s overlayed on them. Still pics functioned as normal. All other effects and transitions were the same. Like I said, if you can do it on a DVD, you can at least simulate it effectively on a SVCD. It really doesn't take that long once you get the hang of it.

If this project is only going to be played on the pc, then you can actually do true hotspots just like what is available on DVDs, ie: click the button with the mouse, button animates when mouse hovers over it, etc... Only decent program for doing this is Video Pack 4.0 though...maybe one of the later WinonCD version supports it.

As for authoring to DVD instead, good choice. Just use the best dvd authoring software you can afford.
