    Pardon my newishness.

I downloaded a couple of 3gigabyte mpeg2 public domain movies from Prelinger archives. Nero Vision Express shows them as 3.6 gb, but that leaves plenty of green in the load or fill bar at the bottom.

After encoding, Nero asks for a blank to burn. After I insert it, Nero says 'this disk does not have enough space. Please insert a disc with enough space' and spits out the disc. Tried many DVD-Rs and -RWs.

Anybody familar with this situation? Thanks.

  2. Check to see if you have the right drive selected in Nero

  3. I don't know the program you are using, but it is possible that it is converting the audio to PCM. If so, then it would inflate the size of the downloaded file.

Andkiich got it. Changing default LPCM audio to AC-3 got a successful
    author and burn.

But -- although it plays perfect on my pc, my panasonic RP62 and Philips DVP642 won't play it. Pan shows the menu. Both units indicate 'play' on their displays, but there is no picture. I'm beginning to think Nero isn't the best DVD authoring software. VCD authoring seems good.

The Philips player can play raw mpeg2 files, but appearently because Nero burns files over 2gig as VDF files, the Philips can't play this. Seems like it's just not meant for me to see these movies in good quality on my front projector TV.

  5. Nero is probably not your best option for DVD Authoring.

You might want to look into other authoring applications, especially ones that do not re-encode your material.

DVD-Lab and TMPGEN DVD Author come to mind.

Was using Nero because it came with a burner. Probably do need something else.

I just was looking at the DVD files and notice it had no Audio_TS folder.
I know this folder is always empty, but isn't it always part of a DVD?
Could this be why it won't play on my DVD players?

it's possible that not having the audio_ts folder would make a differnce,
but it could be your Philips player, I had one and it would only play some
discs but most it struggled with! Have you tried it on any other players?
Also, I believe that nero does include the audio_ts folder, are you using
    the latest version?

A Panny player won't play the DVD either.

Just burned a data DVD with a .vob file from the authored DVD. This played in the Philips, but with no audio and the wrong aspect ratio.

This Nero suite came with a Memorex burner. The Nero Vision Express
    program is ver 2.1.0.4.

Maybe I'll just have to live with vcds on my 80" screen or watch the movies on my pc monitor.
