DVD STUDIO PRO 2: cant import mpeg2 ?!

I'm having problems importing mpeg2 video into DVDSP2. Keeps saying "Could not import file. The Files format is not supported" I've tried using MPEG2 saved from Yade, OSex, Mac the Ripper and Extractor still no luck.... Anyone having this problem?

What are the specifics of the MPEG file you are trying to use?

Two possibilities:

1. DSP only works with elementary files, ie separate Audio and Video, if they are combined, then you will have to demux the file.

2. If your file is 1/2 D1 then you probably need to update DSP with a free patch.

sometimes running it through bits from moremissingtools fixes it, but not always.

The MPEG2s I import are demuxed into a seperate video stream. I import it into DVDSP 1.5 and they work fine..... i'll have to try and patch DVDSP2 see if this helps. Know were I can find this patch?

I've noticed lately that MTR will make a bad chapter rip if the disc is dirty. Wipe your disc down, even if it plays well in Apple DVD Player. Wipe it and try it again.

Be sure to select the correct video standard (PAL or NTSC) before importing files.

OK, I was finally able to get an MPEG2 into DVDSP2 using an MPEG created with OSEX. Now it imported, but it has a red dot under "Usability" and I cant select it. Cant even move it to the track window. Does anyone know what's going on?

The red dot means its analyzing the file to see if all of the GOPs are open or closed, and also its collecting other data about the file. Its findings are being stored in a file in the PAR folder thats in the same folder as your MPEG file.

0Sex damages AC3 files when ripping to elementary streams. You should use a modern ripper like YadeX to rip to streams.

OK i've tried using an MPEG created with YADE but i'm still geting the same red dot issue. Although it imports into DVDSP 1.5 without a problem. I tried turning on "background encoding" in the preferences and it worked for one YADE MPEG. Doesnt work with any other i've tried to import though. Any more suggestions?

How long are you waiting for the red dot to disappear? What DVD are you getting the files from? Are you trying to import NTSC video into a PAL project or vice versa? Did you wipe down that disc?

Success... seems that waiting was the key. Took a few minutes for DVDSP to decode. And wiping the disk helped with the other MPEGS I was having trouble with. Thanks all, great help!
