Burning dvd's to play on any dvd player?

Is it possible to burn a dvd so that it will play on any dvd player even if it doesnt support burnt dvd's? I am wondering this because that is what my school teacher did. He made a dvd for the kids in the school choir from when they went on a trip and made a dvd for them. And it works on any dvd. How can i do that? What program do i use? Or do i need a special dvd burner?

If a player doesn't 'officially' support burnt DVD's there is still a chance it will play, but no guarantees. It is not possible to absolutley guarantee that any burnt DVD will play in absolutley all DVD players, though with modern burners and players the chances of a correctly authored and burnt DVD playing are pretty good.

This is asked alot. Get an authoring writer & press your dvds. These should work.

No, you cant make a cd reader read dvds.

what do you mean authoring writer and press the dvd's? how do i do that and which progarms do i use. will i then be able to play any burned dvd on my Toshiba SD-2805?

As written, no.

In theory, if the player unequivocally does not support burnt media, then no brand of discs, software, method or burner will be able to create a working product.

As mentioned, the only way to 100% guarantee that a disc will play in all players is to press as opposed to burn.

The reality of the situation is that I have not seen a DVD player that won't play either DVD-R or DVD+R burnt discs.

For capatibility (especially with older DVD Players) use DVD-R's .... I believe they have a higher success rate over +R's.

Case in point was a 8 year Sony DVD player I have ... would play all -R's and nothing else. Bought a $30.00 samsung and it will read +/-R's and +/- RW's plus MP3, plus JPEG slide shows, plus CD's, CDRW's and CD'R's....

If I could press my own dvds with glass masters I would have started that a long time ago. If you want a 4.37 gig DVD pressed just send it to this facility but 500 DVDs are the minimum order so your probably out of luck. http://www.cdman.com/technical/howdocdswork8.html

The process of DVD making is with actual data etched as pits and grooves. A DVD-R/W or +R/W writer only imitates those pits and grooves with chemicals in the DVD-R/W or +R/W
