  1. I have 2 Liteon dvd recorder/players on is 200ad and the other 5115 both are supposed to play xvid and divx. I burned a movie on a dvd+rw without closing the disc. Burned with nero as a data file.

It doesn't play on the recorders. What am I doing wrong?

Not closing the disc, probably. Many of the DVD players that support playing DivX/Xvid don't like multisession discs, if I remember correctly.

Also, there may be some that don't like RW discs, but that's less likely.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

Yep, i was thiking the same thing, leaving the disc open might cause a problem.

Also are you sure they are RW's ?
As even DVD+R's (write once) are marked with the RW logo, even though they are NOT RW's (re-writable)

But yeah, not closing the disc/session might be your problem.

My standalones have never had problem playing Xvid/Divx discs on either DVDR's or DVDRW's, but i always close the disc/session/finalize.

  4. The object of burning to a dvd rw was to save on buying so many dvds disc. If i have to finalize it i am not saving anything.. I thought i read on some board that they were burned as a data and then you can watch and erase and reuse the dvd disc.

The only thing I would save at this rate if i finalized reg dvd cd would be the cost of a dvd rw.

Do i burn as a video or data file?

    Ummm...

You can still close the session on a ReWritable and use it again

I do it 50 times a week on my RW's.

Use a good burning software like Imgburn. <-- click the link, it's free.

On the first screen you will have SIX options, choose "Write files/folders to disc" then just drag and drop the divx files into the big window on the top left, then burn.

When you want to burn something new to the RW, repeat.

  6. Ok, I just dl'd it and will give it a try. I didn't know you could close a dvd rw and then use it again by erasing it.
    Thanks a lot.

Lucky you. But I will warn you that most DVD players won't correctly play multi-session discs. Usually what happens is that the player recognizes only the file(s) from the first burn. A few only recognize the file(s) from the final burn. And a few will play everything in every session, but this is rare. That's why most of us don't bother with multi-session burns - too many problems.
