You say you can't get it to work but you don't mention what your exact problem is. Are your subs out of sync? Do you miss or misunderstand a step? How far did you get?

  4. Also to note

if i put the edited VIDEO_TS.BUP & VOB file in the original dvd files it doesn't play at all with power dvd, so i left them out which let me play the dvd files perfectly with powerdvd but once ive used Copytodvd to write the files to disk it just dont work video fine but no subs?

    i have also try'd it on 2 dvd player's?

You say everything is fine on your computer but it's not ok on your standalone. Does that mean that the subs are appearing correctly on ypur computer monitor? iF that's the deal, you probably haven't positioned your subtitles correctly and they appear somewhere outside your TV's borders. Try watching it on a 4:3 screen TV and see if the subs are ok.

I've checked out the guide your following and I can't find anywhere in the text saying about positioning the subs. Maybe you should try DVD-Lab Pro or DVDMaestro if you want to author a DVD and also add subtitles, create menus and stuff like that.
