The worst video product I ever bought. It skipped frames over and over and I wanted to rip my hair out.

I like where this thread is going, but will not participate because it will start a flame war with others (as it has in the past). Good luck, brave soul.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -

Still upset since your last post about it?I think, therefore i am a hamster. -
This is not a flame, just facts.
I use Studio 9, but I capture analog with a Canopus ADVC-100 and DV with an Adaptec 4300 firewire card. I prefer to go straight firewire without a go between when capturing DV. I use Scenalyzer for capture, both analog and DV. I did have some problems with Studio 8, but resolved them. I've had no problems with Studio 9. Between the two I've created about 150 DVD's complete with Menu/s, transitions, HFX transitions, titles...both static and scrolling, used both wav files and mp3 files. All Studio 9's plug-ins have worked well, as well as all third party plug-ins including the VirtualDub plug-ins. All rendering, compiling, and burning have been done using Studio 8, and now Studio 9.Geronimo -

Hi guys
hehe.. just to throw more mud (maybe) into the thread.
I just purchased the Pinnacles "Studio AV/DV" card.
The reason to my madness method for getting this card
is a simple one. As you all know (from my past complaints
and recommend) my previous experince w/ my DC10+ card's output
quality is ZERO Line Noise. There is simply no Noise in this
card. But this card does have a major limitation. Its max
capture resolution for NTSC sources is only 640 pixels.
But still.., I admire its clean source. So, while shopping
around my favoriate store, I bumped into this Studio AV/DV
card. I started to thinking, "hay, maybe this card doesn't
have any Line Noise either - - couldn't hurt to try" So, I
picked it up - I can always return it if it proves Line Noise.
.
So, I guess I "tune in to my final results" will have to do
for now :P
Please, be quite.., no Noise please.. .. .
Another reason why I picked it up, (if it works well, I'll add
it to my capture card collection) is because it does not have
a Hardware DV codec. Yeah! Its stickly a DV transport, using
the Firewire mechanism. It saves to whatever codec you tell it to,
wrapped inside the DV container.. so-to-speak.
Now, again I tell you, if this card passes w/ no Line Noise, I'll
be happy and have a new toy to try out my many projects that were
plauged w/ Line Noise. And, I can finally do my Star Wars Laserdisc
set w/ no noise and w/ any codec I choose (other than DV) yeah!
Oh, by the way, FWIW.., I'm U/L'ing a Star Wars sample clip from my
Winfast card, case you'd like to see what this card can deliver ( after my
tweaks and skillful/cunning'ness hehe.. ) See the Star Wars Convers...
thread.

I don't think I have ever experienced any line noise from like over 10 capture cards I have used in the past. I use good quality cables, thats probably why.

Well, the worst thing I didn't buy but was stuck with troubleshooting was the Mac version of the Pinnacle DC30+.
It never did work up to expectations. There were always little problems popping up (dropped frames, endless sync issues). I needed to use work-arounds on top of work-arounds just to get any basic work done.
I also had an old Matrox Marvel G200TV, which was a bear to get a clean capture with until I discovered AVI_IO. Not to mention the MV hack needed to get around the false MV detection on noisy tapes.
Ah, the good old days of analog capture and hardware MJPEG encoders... -
This is definately a tough subject here. I have used Studio since version 8 when my ATI AIW 7500 came with se. Since, I have upgraded to HFX plus, pro, Studio 9 and as soon as the AC3 plugin is available I will get that. I have used many different editors such as Mydvd, Arcsoft Showbiz, Ulead Media Studio, Ulead Video Studio v.4,5,6,7 and 8, Premiere and Vegas Video, Sony Movie Blaster (VV Lite). I have not had a try at Magix Movie Edit yet, while it looks interesting I just know it will not compete with Studio 9 DVD menu creation abilities, HFX abilities and the unlimited possibilites with plugins. Albeit it has bugs but all the editors that I have listed above have their problems. Some worse than others. Now as far a hardware goes, I would recommend staying away from pinnacle hardware for one main reason. NO COMPATABLE WDM drivers. So basically its all propriatary and I don't like that flexibility. I personally use my DV camcorder for video along with my ADS Pyro AV Link, which is currently being updated by ADS and Lastly my ATI AIW 9000 as a last resort. However, I am going to start looking closely at the new ATI HiDefinition TV Card that was just released. I may look to pick up a usb2 or firewire version of it. But until then I agree with staying away from pinnacles hardware. The Software on the other hand, its all in the eye of the beholder as to what they choose.
