    I think I need to start learning HTML a little better. I anybody tell me what this means. This was at the start of a free HTML template...but I have no idea hwat it means...and I think its whats preventing me from putting in JApanese.

    Can anyone recommend a book, or website with a tutorial on using HTML

    for 99% of my coding, I have an older O'Reilly book, HTML : The Definitive Guide. my copy is the 3rd edition, I got it off the "old, crusty computer books" shelf at my local MicroCenter for about $5.

    Like I said before I'm not too familiar with this area but thsat declares the type of document your using. HTML 4.01 Transitional refers to the version of html. That doesn't declare the charset (i think, not sure what the en on the ned is for) which is what your after. Probably the easiest way is look at the source code for a page using the same characters that you are using, look for the charset declaration and copy that line to your source code.
