  1. I Have been burning Dvds for a while now and jus recently it would copy the whole thing fine but when I went to watch it the movie would stop about 5 to 10 minutes before it was over. When I started I used Fuji Dvds(only 25) but now I use memorex all the time. The last few movies that I have tried I have wasted about 8 with only 2 coming out good. I have no idea what it could be, i have switched from the Img Tool to Nero with both having the same results.

    Hello,
Why don't you try dvdshrink? Use it to rip and encode the disc (just click open disc and choose how you want to backup). Then burn the video_ts folder (if you have nero it will load it for you).

    Sounds like crap media.

If you look at Lordsmurf's media site here:
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

he mentions a fairly good media (RICOHJPN) and a very bad one (CMC), both marketed as "Memorex". You might have the CMC-made Memorex media.

The way to tell for sure is to download DVD Info Pro and get the media ID from that.

Try Maxell media (or another good one Lordsmurf has listed) and see if it still does the same thing

  4. It sounds like using the cheaper media is not working well.

I had an experience with this too. I had great luck as a newbie burning TDK discs, then I tried some cheap stuff and had the same thing as your happen.

I now only use JAPANESE Maxell or Taiyo Yuden. They are always a buck a piece or less....no excuse not to use the best, right?

Right now, the best Taiyo Yuden quality stuff is .88c each.

  5. I am new to dvd burning and don't know how to tell the difference between the types of media. Is it really easy and I am retarded or do you have to look at everything on the packaging.

I have seen some post on these boards that they can line up DVD blanks (the burn side) and pick out what brands they are from apperance.

The rest of us have to go by packaging. If you pick Japanese Maxell or Japanese Taiyo Yunden you can rest assured that you will have a great burn and the widest compatibility with stand alone players. Other brands may be close, some just as good, but these Japanese brands are the real deal and consistent.

Why waste your time on crap? When the best is only .88c each, that's when I decide to draw the line and use ONLY the best.

  7. It also depends on your dvd-burner. I use the cheapest media (those futureshop 100 packs for $79 canadian (DVD-R)) and I have almost burned every one of them, and I have yet to burn a coaster. I also have a cheap ass apex dvd player for my tv, and have had no playback problems at all with my burned DVD's.

I use a pioneer 107-D dvd+-RW for burning. It seems to work extremely well with cheap media.

  8. I just checked my media code ( LEADDATA or LD01 or LD or LEDA = Lead Data = (-R)(-RW) with that guide. The success rate for these disks are between 50-80% very unpredicatable. I have burned most of my pack, and haven't had one coaster. So it really depends on you burner.
