Is it a DV cam or analog cam?

If it's DV use the firewire port on the cam to transfer it to your PC. It may have a USB port but many people report a lot of problems using the USB ports on a cam to transfer video. The only other thing you would need in this case is capture, editing and authoring software. You may also need a firewire PCI card if your computer doesn't have one. You can try the USB since you already have it, all you need is the software. Ulead Video Studio is software that will perform all three Capture, edit and author.

If it's analog there is literally hundreds of alternatives. Many people here are very happy using the Canopus products. If you want to stick with the USB make sure that the device you purchase uses USB 2.0 to transfer the video, USB 2.0 compatible doesn't neccesarily mean it's using 2.0.
