This Belkin device (only 40.00) can act as a usb host manager between mass storage devices without a pc. My question:

Can you hook up a mp3 player to a usb harddrive and stream music/movies with this???

This would be ideal for turning any size mp3 player into potentially unlimited capacity if the device would allow streaming. If it was copy only it would still be an interesting idea. You could take a portable harddrive with all your movies on it and transfer just the ones you want and move on without a computer.

So can this be used for streaming media files off a usb harddrive???

From the looks of this review, probably not.

Although the Belkin USB Anywhere accepts USB 1.1 and 2.0 devices, it transfers files at only 12Mbps, so larger files can take a while to complete. It took 28 minutes to transfer 121MB worth of pictures from our camera to a USB key. The bridge has two modes of operation; it will copy the full contents of the source device (full mode) or just the files in the root directory (root mode). Unfortunately, you cannot choose individual files for transfer.

I'd be curious to read the replies on this also. Wild Guess: (even IF it does support streaming) the USB might be fast enough to stream MP3s, but very possibly not fast enough for streaming video, with acceptable results ?
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.
