  1. i followed galactica's guides like usual, but this time i'm stumped. first of all, i'm trying to back up the Nightmare Before Christmas. I'm doing only the movie and main menu.

since this main content is less than 4.4 gb's (it's actually only 3.5 gb's) i don't use dvd2onex. anyways, after replacing the useless vob files with small dummy ones, the video_ts folder won't play in apple's dvd player.

only the fbi warning loads and then its a black screen.

    any help would be appreciated.

the tutorial says thats to be expected
it shoudl play fine in VLC and in your settop dvd player.

if you have a RW dvd just burn it and test it. I cant guarentee it will work but 9/10 times it does.

  3. Verify your progress by opening this VIDEO_TS folder in DVD Player.* The movie will play back as it would on your set top DVD player.* As mentioned above, if you decided to remove the Warning Title you may see a long section of black screen.* Forwarding chapters will bring you to the menu which you can then verify that the buttons work.
I don't mind burning it to a DVD-R to test it out, but when I open the video_ts folder, after the FBI warning, the screen is black... BUT i cannot fwd to the next chapter, pressing menu or title doesn't work and the time is not running. Thats why I feel it probably won't play anywhere?

I thought the menu should load at least and then maybe i could select chapters, but this time nothign loads.

    Right? Wrong?

    Thanks.

if you followed the "advanced" tutorial on my website the dvd WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY IN APPLE DVD PLAYER!!!!!

it should load fine into VLC however. Please try that first. Otherwise, you can try to burn it, but understand there is a SLIGHT chance your settop dvd player cant play it that way.

Most can, again, so give VLC a try by going to FILE/ then OPEN FILE then click DISC then click the button next to VIDEO_TS folder, and browse for the DVD's VIDEO_TS folder

    report back please

  5. ok heres the scoop:
i loaded it fine into vlc. after the menu started playing i just clicked on PLAY and vlc crashed.

im debating if i should test it on one of my dvd-r discs. would burning it onto a dvd-r let it load fine in apple's dvd player? or will it never play fine in apple's dvd player?

any ideas on the vlc crash? i could even try dvd2onex's movie only mode and then add the menus later??

did you follow the tutorial to the letter?

the fact that VLC crashed may ormay not be significant
only way to know is to burn it and see if your settop dvd player can read it

i have never had a problem, but VLC plays mine

it wont work with it as a dvd for dvd player, because its the same thing as having it be on the HD

    i suggest
    1. redoing the rip/conversion making sure you follow the steps perfectly
    2. burning it and seeing if your settop player can play it.

    best of luck

If you can play the vob's from VLC's Open File browser menu, then the vob's are okay. Take the disc and ifoedit and borrow a pc to make new ifos. Then put those ifo's and bup's and the vob's into a folder and burn it under Toast. It should play just fine.

  8. I have that disk, and since you are having an issue... I tested it out for you. It worked just fine, and can play in a set top. Ripped w/ MTR. Burned w/ Toast. It looked great and the popcorn tasted fine

  10. FCPguy thanks for the confirmation. like galactica asked, what method, mind giving details?

also, did you test it in vlc and dvd player, just out of curiousity? for me vlc is currently crashing after the menu loads. i followed galactica advacned tutorial, i'll try one more time to follow it on the dot and post back.

but give us the scoop if you can. thanks!

  11. Sorry, Should've been more in-depth. I ripped it MTR using movie only. I didn't retain the menu, just insert into DVDplayer and it plays on loop.

I do think this movie is worth getting the menu and extras though. There is a killer old Tim Burton short in there called Vincent. Absolutely hillarious

I didn't use the advanced method, b/c if memory serves me right, it wasn't that large of a file. I'll check again later (I'm at work now) but I'll post what I did exactly if it isn't working for you Peace-

  12. ive never had a problem ripping a movie only movie. usually i add the menu since the menu is only a few hundred mb's more and its worth it being able to see chapters and select.

see if you can get a working copy with menu's. just menu and movie, no extras. i can't seem to get it. bummer.

  13. I'll do that when I get home tonight and I'll post when I find out-

right but this topic was mainly focused on MOVIE ONLY with MENU!
sure movie only works no problems....... i would like to see if we can get him to make it with the menu and the movie. should work, i do it all the time.

I love having a menu for a movie, its small and doesnt affect the quality of the movie much [if at all]

please let me know if you got this disk to play

  15. ok i did it all over again from scratch, following the guide as accurately as possible.

since the total movie and menu size is less than 4.4 gb's i just replaced the extra vob's with dummy files.

the result so far is this:
in vlc player it loads, plays the menu. clicking the PLAY icon in the menu crashes vlc player.

click the chapter selection works and selecting a scene ALSO works fine. i have not yet tested this in a settop dvd player.

when i find out about that i'll post back as well.

    any idea on the crash?

    thanks!
