Got my JVC for 10days. Quite satisfied. But got some editing fuction questions. Hope somebody can help me.

When I tried to do "delete unwanted part of program" (manual P.77), the "edit" and "protect" buttons are grayed out. Only "modify" and "delete" fuctions are available. I tried DVD-RAM and DVD-R, both got same problem.

I have done 50 transfers from DVD+RW to DVD-R using TMPG DVD Author. But for the TV program recording, I do not want to spend that much extra time. Hope I can do this on the unit directly.

Found the answer myself. The "delete unwanted part" does not work on video mode. It is for vr mode only. So it will not work on DVD-R as I hope. Also for DVD-RAM, if the disc is a "ON-Disc Timer" disc (or the other timer recorder program?) ,this fuction will not work. For regular basic recording, it does work. Did not have time to try DVD-RW or other situation yet. The manual did not explain this at all.

Thanks! Just try to find a quick and dirty way to do the commercial skip. Seems there is none for JVC. Pioneer got a commercial skip button which can skip 30-second forward per press up to 4 minutes. It seems none of the recorder got a scene detection fuction like Replay TV or Sonic Blue PVR.

Which program do you use on the PC to edit?

Rip in DVD Decrypter in IFO mode, saves to hard drive.
Edit VOB/VRO in Womble, save as MPEG.
Then author new DVD in authoring software.

Is there a time saving doing it that way?
I've been copying the VIDEO_TS directory to my hard drive then using TMPGEnc DVD Author to removed commericals and then authoring again with TDA.
