    Hello,

I ran across a JVC SR-W7U that was pretty much New in the box, allegedly only used to record one tape, purchased from the original owner. The playback picture looks fine, I think I might have gotten a good unit.

I am also considering a Mitsubishi HS-HD2000U D-VHS. How do you think this Mitsubishi would compare? Do you think that the HS-HD2000U would work better on some tapes than the SR-W7U?

How recent is the HS-HD2000U? The manufacture date according to serial number on the SR-W7U is February 2000.

Considering a standard VHS 2-head or 4-head tape as the source, does using the component video output improve anything over using standard composite S-Video?

What sort of Time Base Corrector does the SR-W7U have? Is the SR-W7U perhaps exempt from the "forum.videohelp.com" rule of need a separate Frame Synch/TBC?

Is the Panasonic AG-1980P still considered better at playing back EP and SLP tapes than a JVC SR-W7U?

    Thanks for the reply!

I have read though that list.

References on this forum suggest that the SR-W7U is a notch above all the other VCR's on that list? If going by the listing alone, am I to assume that the SR-W7U is just an unusual alternative to a JVC HR-S9xxU series?

Also, some of those DVHS models, such as the HM-DL3000U are rumored to not have have time base correctors and therefore do not work as well with consumer VHS tapes, as they are optimized for D-VHS?

    Thanks for your help.

  3. The JVC SR-VDA400US (pro version of the HM-DH40000U) I own definitely has a TBC built in. It seems to provide a continuous sync output as well, eliminating the need for an external TBC. Its performance with EP speed VHS tapes seems to be WAY better then my HR-S7800U too. One bonus is that you can turn on the unit's tape stabilizer with the Digipure TBC (which can't be disabled on this model), the SVHS decks can have either the TBC on or the stabilizer. You may need multiple VCRs in the end anyway, some will track your tapes better then others.
