I found that a few of the CMC's I have tested started losing read speed towards the last 3/4 GB, so I would say it depends on the media you use. Most of my DVD's are burnt to the hilt.

I think stopping at 4 GBs is silly. I use Maxell MXLRG02 discs which are fine all the way through. If I did buy crappy media which had issues on the end of the disc, I would still burn over 4 GB because I think the quality gain is worth the coasters.

As long as you use [i]good[i] media, burning to the max shouldn't be a problem.

As a matter of fact, I use overburn and can routinely get 5.2G.

I'm about the same...4290-4330. I always seem to land around there for my backups of video or home created video.

For data, what ever it will handle, I've never really checked to see the actual size. It gets to the end and either it says to change the media or it finishes the backup...

I'm afraid to try 12X media....I might go back in time, and seems like only yesterday I was still married. scary.

  23. all my programmes are set to 4400meg.
never had any problems, but i have noticed that if i copy onto dvd+R,there seems to be more space left on the dvd, even using the same files.-same size, etc.
it just seems as if its not as close to the edge of the disc, with +R.

Give her as much as she'll take. If you're having problems, stop buing that crappy media and get some good stuff.

I like any Ricoh made +R media. Never had any problems whatsoever.

    No.
Good media up to 4.37GB is fine

Bad media can be bad anywhere, often in the middle or end. Sometimes even beginning.

  27. I use Ritek media almost exclusively from the 1X days until now... burn to the max capacity and about 3 coasters in 2,000 discs.

Tell us more how to burn a dvd faster than 20X....I'm curious....I'd hate to waste money on a new 16x burner if I can overclock mine to 15 seconds.....
