  1. Hey all, I have been using DvD Shrink and Nero (60011) to backup some of my DVD's. I've only had the burner (NEC 2500A) for about a week and luckly every burn has been perfect. It just seems to me that the steps that I'm taking may be repetative and not needed, so this is what I do.
1: Shrink it - then Re-Author - backup to folder
2: Nero - Recode - analyze - something volume - then finally burn.

I guess my real question is, is recode necessary. I have tried to burn the files right after ripping them and it never reads all of them.

If this is the process I don't have a problem with it, but I haven't seen any of the tutorials or anyone mention all of the above steps.

    Thanks in Advance.

I see no reason to recode. You should be able to drop the contents of the videoTS folder into Nero Burning ROM(DVD, DVD Video) and burn. Depending on which version of DVDshrink you are using, Shrink can do that automatically. Or use DVDDecrypter to burn.

Yes, I'm wondering about the same (sorry - no advice)...

I even code to MPEG2 with TMPGEnc Plus, and still NVE2 transcode.

It dosn't matter if source is avi or mpg. 90-95 % of the time Nero uses is transcoding.

Why does it have to transcode to DVD when source already is MPEG2?

I know it's possible to burn even vobs in NVE2 and it STILL have to transcode!

    My steps is as follows:

    1. Rip video/sound with DVD Dectypter.
    2. Rip subs with SubRip.
    3. Encode using DVD2AVI and VirtualDub to get an avi-file
    or...
    3. Encode using DVD2AVI, VirtualDub (filter/frameserv) and TMPGEnc Plus to get an mpg-file.
    4. Burning DVD with NVE2 wich have to transcode it once more....

Step 1-3 takes no time - it's the 4h transcoding with NVE2 that pin me down...

    While am at it:
    1. Why can't VirtualDub or TMPGEnc use vob's as source?
    2. Why can't I add subtitles with TMPEnc?
    3. Why can't VirtualDub use d2v-files from DVD2AVI?
    4. Why can't VirtualDub (subtitle-filter) use a srt-file as source for subtitles (only ssa-files)?

    Why, why, why....
    ...000....000....

  4. I'm using dvd shrink 3.1 ... If I just go to the menu and pick DVD video and then the program comes up and you have to add files.....it either will not read all the files in or If I don't batch open them and add them 1 by 1 sometimes it comes up and tells me that the size exceeds one dvd and ask me if I want to change the quality, but it reality it is under 4.7.
Nero just seems like it doesn't read what Shrink rips, unless it does the recode. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks again!

  5. Use Shrink. Click the option to Burn with Nero.

As your target select your burner instead of your Hard Drive and it will burn with Nero automatically.

  6. I have that checked in the options and when its finished it don't give me the option to burn it with Nero. It just tells me that the files are finished and where they are, then I open Nero and start the recode. Thats the only way I can get it to work.

  7. You do that through settings in Shrink. There is an option to burn with Nero in the settings option of Shrink.

    Open up Shrink.
    Click on Edit
    Click on Preferences
On the next screen click on tab File I/O
On next screen enable........ Enable burning with Nero.

    That will do it.

  8. Why don't you use the same program to burn your DVD? (DVD Shrink)

Update your NERO BURN program. The version you're using is quite old. I think the version is now up to 6.3.1.17

Another option would be to use a older version of DVD SHRINK like 3.05 beta. Here's the link for that version: http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/dvdshrinkold/

There have been more reports of having problems with the latest version of DVD SHRINK which has the built in NERO if your computer has NERO installed. Best advice I can give is to use what works best for you.
