  1. Hi,

I have a vob which I want to convert to an mpg file from which I want to cut out a sequence and keep it.

I have by now tried so many ways to make the conversion work but all results are the same. A nice mpg file with no audio.
I have read several guides here and followed them (e.g. DVD Decrypter, multiplex and demultiplex with Tmpgenc or using Mpeg Video Wizard or trying to make just a xvid file using SimpleDivx or simple renaming the vob).
Every time the end file looks perfectly fine (it has even the correct size if you add video and ace file size if that is of importance) but has no audio (I checked with WMP and PowerDVD, even RealPlayer), the vob is normal with audio and I don't know what else to do.
Please if anybody knows what the problem could be and can help I'd be very grateful.

    Thanks,
    Gwion

    Hello,
I'm suprised tmpgenc didn't work for you. As a last resort you could just split out the audio only from the vob and combine that with the video only mpeg you have.

    {file, mpeg tools, demultiplex, load file, double click audio portion, save file}

Good luck. I hope somebody else can give you more insight.

  3. Load the demuxed VOB/MPG files into MPEG2Schnitt - if the audio file is OK, you should be able to hear it. You can do simple I and P frame cutting and pick chapter points with MPEG2Schnitt. Then author the trimmed .m2v and .ac3 (along with the chapter point text file) with IFOEdit for a basic, no-menu DVD file. If it plays OK on your computer, go ahead burn to DVD-R if you like. Or, if you just want to save the trimmed files as an .mpg, remux with TMPGEnc MPEG Tools (won't have chapter points, though).

  4. yoda: i tried to do that with Tmpgenc but the result is a soundless file.
I have these files from DVDDecrypter:
    VTS_02_1 - 0x81 - Audio - AC3 - 2ch - 48kHz - DRC - English - DELAY -66ms.AC3
    VTS_02_1 - 0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 - 720x480 (NTSC) - 4~3.M2V

Simple multiplex with Tmpgenc produces an mpg file named
    VTS_02_1 - 0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 - 720x480 (NTSC) - 4~3.mpg

and still (or again) there is no sound.
GShelley, thanks for the advice I will try to do that though it sounds terrible complicated ..

  5. hi

just read your post on the mpeg2 schnitt will this import two parts of a svcd converted into mpeg2 so they can be joined and edit the over lap out of the two files?

I think so... it is free to give it a try either way.

It is a couple of extra steps, but I find that MPEG2Schnitt and IFOEdit are somewhat less fussy about about .m2v and .ac3 files that some other programs have trouble with...
