My friend has CCE and uses the program when ripping his dvd's for personal use.
If CCE does what I think it does, which involves passing the dvd numerous times to create a smaller file size, yet keep similar quality?
I would like to know if I were to take my dvd's, use CCE first, then proceed encoding my dvd to xvid, would I be able to get a higher bitrate by doing this? Rather than taking the orginal (without using cce) and encoding.
Something about the whole 'compressing/passing' makes me wonder if it'll work? After using cce, are the files different?

CCE is an MPEG encoder, you friend is taking an 8 gig dvd and throwing away half the data to make it 4.3 gigs so it'll fit on a DVD-R disc.
This won't help you encode Xvid at all, you're just starting the same process with a lower quality file, giving you ultimately a lower quality Xvid.
if you want your Xvid a higher bitrate, then, uh, increase the bitrate when you encode.
