    i ran into this problem a couple weeks ago, you need to edit your boot.ini

    right click my computer than select the advanced tab, next there should be a startup and recovery section click settings

    Than you should see:

    To edit the startup options file manually, click edit.

    you would see something like this:

    [boot loader]
    timeout=15
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    Make sure you have an erd.....in case you mess it up and have to fix it.

    I believe the rdisk is for which hardrive if its on first leave it alone, than partion is which partion of the hardisk is the boot files on. If you only have 1 partion leave as 1.

    edit so it looks something like this:

    [boot loader]
    timeout=15
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    google for more info on boot.ini or you could always reformat your drive and reinstall
