  1. Relative newbie here....but a little knowledge is dangerous.

I have burnt almost 100 DVD's with good results using DVD Shrink and BurnAtOnce. Here is the problem, occasionally I would notice when I opened DVD Shrink it would hang up and freeze and not respond to any commands. I would try to CTRL/ALT/DELETE and this would close it, but upon re-opening it would freeze again. This happened every few months, so I would uninstall the program and re-install it. I had good results doing this and everything was great after doing so.

Today though I had to uninstall DVD Shrink and upon re-installing it I tried to back up a DVD and noticied I had no sound (settings all look good in Shrink). I also tried playing the DVD in Windows Media Player and it had no sound either. I get a message from Windows Media Player saying "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer."

I ran a test on my Turtle Beach sound card and speakers play normally, so no problem there.

I assume that when I uninstalled DVD Shrink it deleted a necessary file, but I have no idea which one or how to get it back!

    Help! Thanks ahead...

    P.S. I just checked a web site ( http://www.angelfire.com/celeb2/kungfu/kungfu.WMV )

and my Windows Media Player still plays wave files ok, just not DVD's

  2. Install PowerDVD or other software DVD player. I believe the underlying reason here is that you have to pay extra for an MPEG-2 decoder to cover some licensing fees.

What sound does the DVD have ?

My guess is that you don't have an AC3 decoder any more.
    If in doubt, Google it.
