Hi all, my DVD writer (Liteon dh20a4p) is breaking down after less than one year. Even when it completes the burn without an I/O Error message, the resulting movie is all messed up.

I usually burn two movies onto the same dvd. But the problem is, the first movie would be all messed up. It would play for a few minutes, and then freeze, and suddenly the second movie would play and play without problem. Fastforwarding to go through the messed up parts is not doable.

Burning the movie as a data dvd seems to work, but then I can’t play it on my standalone player.

Also, sometimes, the dvd rom doesn’t even eject. It takes sometimes more than 10 presses for the ejection to occur.

Has anyone had a problem like this? Could it be my PC that’s breaking down and not the DVD burner?

You may have more than one problem. You say data discs work perfectly? The burner doesn't know the difference between a data disc or a authored DVD, so that sounds like a PC or software problem. What are you using and how are you doing it to create the DVDs?

Skipping and playback problems are more often related to the media used. I stick to Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim if I want dependable burns.

Not being able to eject the media may be a problem with the burner itself. But they would happen for playback from the device also. If it only happens after a burn, it may be software related. Some burners may last for years and others a short time. Depends on the quality of the device and quality control during manufacture. Even good brands may fail at times prematurely.

If you use ImgBurn, you might post a burn log of a failed burn. That may have some clues as to the problem. Nero has them too, but I wouldn't recommend Nero for much of anything, IMO.

I/O problems are more often related to the PC and the programs it's running, along with the hardware.
