I have a .AVI file that has has nice home movie on it and I want to remove the wording at the bottom. The person who took it left his company logo on it and now when I watch it, it shows the company name below the screen area.
What do I have to do to remove this, what is a Good editor for this and any other advice. the avi file is about 300 megs.

Oh by the way its MPEG LAYER-3 right now...

  8. i don't know how much this will help with what you're doing, but I got a similar error using an MPEG-2 file.

I opened the file in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 and Exported it as an AVI file with certain settings that allowed VirtualDub to open/edit it.

Just download the Trial Adobe Premiere Pro, it's got ful functionality I think. Open a New Project, click Import and select your MPEG layer 3 file. If that works you should be in business.
Double click on the name of that file so that the video appears. Right click on the video, and select "insert" to put it on the timeline. Then go to File -> Export -> Movie...

In the next window make sure you adjust the settings properly. Virtual Dub will open the avi if you select "Microsoft AVI" under the general tab and "None/Uncompressed" under the Video tab compressor option.

Click okay, name the file and you'll get your avi that you can open in VirtualDub. Hope you have a huge hard drive.
