    Got a movie in Xvid format, can`t play on it any software, including all the software and codecs recommended here, and all I get is a blank screen and no sound - Gspot and others all say the correct codecs are installed and it should play ok, but it doesn`t! duff movie file?

    Possibly.

    I had a similiar file recently. The solution I found simply through trying everything I could think of was to change the fourcc code from xvid to divx. You can do this in virtualdub or quicker in fourcc changer. Try it. It might work for you too!
