  1. This 'techincally' should be in the divx/xvid forum, but this is more of a general question.

After converting my dvd to xvid, i'm left with the standard audio that originally came from the movie (448kb/s), but I know that's overkill for what I need it for (xvid), and woud like to have only 128kb/s audio.

Is there a way 'downsample' the audio so it is at that level?

My friend has a movie that has the audio rate at 128kb/s, and in Gspot, the information stated that the codec was 'Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec ' (0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3).

What do I do to get the same audio rate as he would?

    Thanks!

  2. If you only plan to play it back on the computer I would use Ogg Vorbis at about quality of 4. If you want more compatability I suggest using MP3. Either way, convert the AC3 file with Headac3he (it is easier to learn than BeSweet) Check out this Howto for MP3 or this Howto for Vorbis

Use avi_MUX GUI to mux the video and audio if you choose MP3. Use OggMux if you choose Vorbis.

  3. Thank you for the suggestions Suntan!

I really wish Gaurdian knot would create the 'selected' audio rate that I choose (128), but it never does, it always chooses the oringal 448kb. I must be doing something wrong?

I'll be playing these xvids on my stand-alone player. I've used 128kb before, and they sound really good!

Thanks again for the suggestions, i'm gonna give it a shot now.

    Try AutoGK. I've converted 448 AC3 to 128 MP3.

  5. I've used AutoGK with success, but there's something about the program that I dont like.. It must be the 'all-in-one' style

I'm trying to aim for xvid.

  6. Suntan, your suggestions worked great, Thanks!

A few more questions for you all...

Does Nandub allow you to take the ac3 file and compress it to an mp3?

I just tried muxing the audio/video with Nandub (using Headach3) and it seemed to work fine. I always here Nandub being a better choice of merging, than others, why is that?
