hi all, whenever i want to backup a dvd i use dvd decrypter to bypass the protection and then open the DVD video files which have been saved on my hard drive using dvd shrink. however recently, during the "shrinking" process, where I compress the movie so that it can fit on a dvd5 my computer completely freezes at 100% every time. i try ctrl+alt+del to bring up those 6 options (im on xp) but this doesn't even work. i've left it to regain consciousness for an hour, but nothing happens. the only option i have is to reset my pc, which i shouldn't have to do.

the same problem happens when i make own dvds. for compatibility, i always run the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders through dvd shrink which i have previously created using ulead or tmpeg dvd author. if i do not do this, they don't work on my dvd player without jittering and jumping every few minutes. this worked perfectly until i started having these crashing problems.

i now have to use my dad's laptop to shrink or backup movies over the network, which is just fiddly and time consuming.

does anyone know what is causing these problems? any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

do you know of any programs which might conflict with dvd shrink? i'm just trying to think of any i might have installed around the time when i started having this problem. could something like tmpeg 3.0 xpress have an effect? i don't want to have to uninstall that, and i'm sure a lot of people using dvd shrink have got that program and have no trouble.

you might want to right click on a open space on your task bar, to bring up task manager, and watch what happens when your encoding gets near a 100 percent

It could be a overheating issue. Apply some thermal paste to the processor. Buy a better cpu fan and get a cpu temperature monitor.
