Hi,
I'm pretty new in the whole printing labels onto the dvd discs. I was wondering if it's worthed to purchase R200 just for printing dvd covers, etc. I was also wondering whether the printable DVD-Rs have problems in playback?? Read a lot of problems came up with the stick it yourself label onto dvd, but don't know if it's the same for the printable dvd media.
Thanks!

I feel it's very worth it, I've printed over 200 discs so far and I love it. Prodisc media is very inexpensive, $39 for 100 printable discs at rima.com.
-
Yes its worth it, they look great.
-
the label problems were caused by adding to the weight of the dvd - therefore changing it's balance so that it wasn't as stable... it's all physics of a rotating body etc. anyway - the addition of ink to the weight should be meaningless - and therefore not damage the dvd...
With all due respect... and there is respect... -
Well as long as using the printable dvd media won't cause any error in playback on most dvd player then I won't mind spending about $90-ish range for the printer.
-
i'd say that's a good call... i saw it floating around for about that amount... just think of the ink costs in advance (read the big thread about that - plenty of info there) the media won't cause trouble but make sure to buy quality printable media - in printables some are better then others...
wish i was able to buy that printer...(look at my location...)

tkamin, i felt sorry for you that you won't be able to buy the DVD printer at all... and in regards to buy quality printable media, could you throw out some suggestions for me? I was thinking of buying either the Prodisc or Ritek (read a lot of bad things going on with Ritek so kinda have my doubts)
-
I use the ritek g04 printable media, not had a bad one yet.

Anyone know what's the differences between these two DVD Printable Media???

The first one is the white printable meanwhile the second one is silver printable... anyone tried either one of those yet? -
I enjoy my R200. I use it primarily to print frames extracted from home movies onto printable DVD media. It is, alas, an ink guzzler. The quality has been excellent - best with DV but acceptable with analog sources.

I noticed Costco is now carrying the R300 with usb cable and 2 printable blank CDs for $149.99. Costco has a great return policy and it may be worth the extra $50 to move up to the R300.
-
Maybe that'll mean they start carrying the cartridges for ultra cheap
-
I'm very happy with mine so far, especially since I was able to get it from Office Depot with a $50 rebate! You may want to see if a similar deal comes along if you're not in a great hurry....
-
I've got the R300. I consider it priceless. The quality is SO much better than using crappy labels. I don't know about you guys but I never got around to making stick-on labels. Now that I've got the R300, I print CD's and DVD's all the time. They just look so good.
My normal process is making home DVD's with Pinnacle Studio. I use Pinnacle's built in DVD's menus. That way I just use that same background graphic to print on the DVD and the jacket cover of the DVD case. Now my DVD's have a theme with matching DVD cover, label and DVD menu. -
Staples in Canada just got the 200 in but they want $179 + tax! The 300 is $250 + tax! Anywhere in Canada selling them cheaper?
-
I just found the R300 at NewEgg.com for $150.95.
OldFart $250+tax!!! Man that free healthcare is getting expensive. -

Still looking... -
Weird, the normal price for the R200 is $99 here and the R300 is $149 at Costco right now. Try outpost.com which is Frys.

I spend 2 seconds looking at the disc, mainly to see what's on it. No, not at all. I'd rather blow $100 elsewhere.
My video customers don't really care either, as I do offer outsourcing for this. I think 6 months ago one person wanted one disc printed on. Most of them are just happy to get restored video and toss the damaged tapes or damaged source discs. Most people prefer graphic work be done on case artwork, hence my laser printer.
When I do work that involves CD's, they usually like artwork labels because they don't give out jewel cases (sleeves used). Again, laser on the labels, none of that sloppy ink stuff.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

BTW, the ink isn't sloppy. My discs can be touched right out of the printer. I consider toner tanks, messy (and lung hazard) but that's just me.
At my advertising shop I deal with many types of print and media. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. Checkout a disc printed with the R300 sometime. -
Hey guys, I read about the Krylon Clear Crystal Glossy spray... so how do I use it? Do I just start spraying on the printed side of the DVD once it's done printing?
-
Ok, I went back to Costco to get the Epson R300-c Item#753188 for $159.99. It comes with a USB cable and 2 TDK printable CD. I had already purchaed the R200 which works great for $89 from Frys a while back. If Costco had this then I would have stepped up due to the fact that Costco will take anything back even a year or two from now. As for the Krylon clear coat, it works well. I use an old CD/DVD pancake cover. Place the printed disc on it and spray it from about 6-8" away. Then when it is dry I do a read test.

Does the R210 print right to the center, or leave a 40mm ring in the middle.
-
It will print right to the center.
I also bought the R200 when it had the $50.00 rebate, which I just recieved. Now I have 2 of these puppies. I bought it just for the ink and to sell on ebay, but shipping kills the profit. Anybody (besides johnnyC) in JAX lookn for an r200 for $60.00 brand new without the ink then hollar at me.
-
Want it to print right to the center?
copy and paste this to a txt file then change the extension to "reg"
right click on it and say merge
11mm print
