I don't want to spend more than $100 so I'm looking for the cheapest canon that will allow me to do this. I also need to know a place online to get the missing printer tray. A good recommendation for a place to buy cheap ink refills, carts, etc. would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Basically you buy a disc tray on Ebay, remove a piece of plastic with a screwdriver and reprogram the printer to be a (wink wink) European model and - presto! - it prints to discs.
I have the Pixma iP4500 and I love it. I have had zero problems with it and I print to a lot of discs. -
I forgot to state - I only buy true Canon ink cartridges. I don't have time to fool with doing my own refills to save a few bucks. There are no stores near my house that sell generic ink cartridges either. You can do a web search to find out what it takes to do that or that website I listed might have info.

New Canon printers have less ink (11-17-2008)
Canon has made some solid printers for a long time. They were always more reliable compared to Epson or HP printers. They also did not have any Nazi Circuits blocking the end user from using compatible carts or refilling the Canon OEM carts. This all changed though when they released new models which came with the cli-8 and pgi-5 carts. These new carts had the dreaded nazi circuit, this added more complexity to the printer and of course more bugs.
The 2nd generation carts go even further because Canon decided to make them smaller with less ink. In the US of A the carts are called cli-220 and pgi-220, in europe cli-520 and pgi-520. -
Ok so it seems current models are to be avoided. Are any od the older models still available for purchase?

I haven't really seen any around at regular retail stores or at online stores. Newegg will get refurb units from time to time. Not too long ago they had some refurbished MP610's. Some eBay sellers have some of these models listed. Be careful if you go the eBay route. Some sellers are selling machines without the ink or printhead or both. Be sure to read the description of the item carefully before purchasing.
