loved it. saw it twice in the theater, and I'll be picking up the dvd (along with the new Dawn of the Dead on the 27th...

for new movies, Spiderman 2 was really good, much better than I expected. new to me, I saw the original Japanese cut of Godzilla last week in the theater, much better than the US version.

These aren't the best I've seen, but I just recently saw two sleeper movies that were excellent - Mystic River (Sean Penn, Tim Robbins) and Monster (Charlize Theron, Christina Ricci). Mystic River is a whodunnit with some excellent acting and some twists, and Monster was equally good. Charlize Theron "skanked down" for the part - no makeup, gained a bunch of weight, had dental appliances to make her look like a dimwit, butchy redneck trailer-trash type. She was replusive. Good acting Both movies get the Capmaster thumbs-up

One of the best I've seen so far this year was Spiderman 2. Was as good if not better than the first one.

    She was great in that!

Rent Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer to see the woman that movie is based on...and you'll appreciate Charlize all the more for how much she put into that character.
It's a very interesting documentary too.

Also, check out one of Charlize Theron's earlier roles in 2 Days In The Valley (where she looks her very best) and compare that with Monster - there are some major differences there

Not a new movie or subject, but was released not that long ago on DVD...the 1976 version of Helter Skelter is definitely worth checking out. Steve Railsback is just as amazing in how he portrayed Charles Manson - very well-made movie!

  6. Last night I actually just saw "The Butterfly Effect" and surprisingly I liked it. I kinda doubted I would since when I think drama the first thing that comes to my mind is NOT the punkd guy but it was cool.

another one, not a new film but a new version - I watched the 30th anniversary dvd of Blazing Saddles last night, and it looks amazing. If you like that movie*, you should run out and pick it up without delay.

( * if you don't, well, there are names for people like you... )

  8. I also enjoyed the butterfly effect, Gothika was pretty good as was paycheck. Just watched Starsky and Hutch which I was looking forward to, but was pretty dissapointed in. Films I am looking forward to seeing next are Spiderman 2 and Shrek 2. Just hope they live up to the hype.

I agree, Starsky and Hutch was a major let down, I cannot believe how un-funny it was, I thought I was slipping into a coma. Shrek 2 on the other hand is a worthy sequel, not seen Spiderman 2 yet as it's still not out.

I watched the 30th anniversary dvd of Blazing Saddles last night...
The camp fire scene, eating beans...

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is probably my favourite up to now. I was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed it, even the second time.

Yeah I agree Starsky and Hutch was only moderately funny. You will like Spiderman 2. Don't know where you are but it was out Wed. at 12AM. It's good though.

I actually thought the first was horrible. Definitely not worth all the hype.

I didn't like the first one much either. It was too long and didn't keep me that interested. This one was a bit shorter and had a great mix of everything, plus I had had a few drinks b4 the movie and was feeling great during the movie, that might account for why I liked it so much.

Saw Star Trek: Nemesis yesterday on DVD. Have never been a Star Trek fan and didn't know what a "Romulan" was until yesterday but I did enjoy it. I thought some of themes of the movie were very interesting. Also good visual effects. Classy movie all the way.

I don't go to movie theaters and don't watch new movies.
